White House(白宫)

By Freelance Chinese Translator Li – English to Chinese translation or Chinese to English translation services - based in Harbin,China.

The White House is the official residence and principal workplace of the President of the United States. Located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C., it was built between 1792 and 1800 of white-painted Aquia sandstone in the late Georgian style(乔治王时期风格) and has been the residence(官邸) of every U.S. President since John Adams. The White House Complex includes the Executive Residence (in which the First Family resides), the West Wing (the location of the Oval Office, Cabinet Room[内阁会议厅], and Roosevelt Room), and the East Wing (the location of the office of the First Lady and White House Social Secretary[秘书长]), as well as the Old Executive Office Building, which houses the executive offices of the President and Vice President. The White House is made up of six stories—the Ground Floor, State Floor, Second Floor, and Third Floor, as well as a two-story basement. The term White House is regularly used as a metonym(代名词,换喻) for the Executive Office of the President of the United States and for the president's administration and advisors in general. In 2007, it was ranked second on the American Institute of Architects's list of "America's Favorite Architecture."

白宫主要房间有:图书室(Reading Room);金器室(the Goldware Room);瓷器室(the Chinaware Room);外交官接待室(the Diplomatic Reception Room);陈列室(the State Floor,国家展室);东厅(the East Room)用于招待新闻记者;绿厅(the Green Room)是非正式的会客厅;蓝厅(the Blue Room)为贵宾休息室;红厅(the Red Room),总统夫人在此接见来客;国宴厅(the State Dining Room),用于举办国宴的地方。二楼和三楼多数是总统的住宅,总统办公室连接玫瑰园(the Rose Garden)的密室。

Thomas Jefferson Memorial(杰斐逊纪念堂)

By Freelance Chinese Translator Li – English to Chinese translation or Chinese to English translation services - based in Harbin,China.

The Thomas Jefferson Memorial is a presidential memorial in Washington, D.C. that is dedicated to Thomas Jefferson, an American Founding Father(美国国父) and the third president of the United States. The neoclassical building was designed by John Russell Pope.
Composed of circular marble steps, a portico(柱廊)and a shallow dome, the building is open to the elements. Pope made references to the Roman Pantheon(万神殿) and Jefferson's own design for the Rotunda(圆形大厅) at the University of Virginia. It is situated in West Potomac Park, on the shore of the Tidal Basin of the Potomac River. The Jefferson Memorial, and the White House located directly north, form one of the main anchor points(重要景点) in the area of the National Mall in D.C. In 2007, it was ranked fourth on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects. The current site of the Memorial was originally created using landfill(泥沙) dredged from the Potomac River in the late 1800s.

The Lincoln Memorial is an American memorial built to honor the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln. Statue of Liberty(自由女神像)

By Freelance Chinese Translator Li – English to Chinese translation or Chinese to English translation services - based in Harbin,China.

Located on a 12 acre island, the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was designated as a National Monument in 1924. It represents a woman wearing a stola(古罗马长袍), a radiant crown and sandals, trampling a broken chain, carrying a torch in her raised right hand and a tabula(书板), where the date of the Declaration of Independence JULY IV MDCCLXXVI is inscribed, in her left arm. Standing on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, it welcomes visitors, immigrants, and returning Americans traveling by ship. Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi sculpted the statue and obtained a U.S. patent for its structure. Maurice Koechlin—designer of the Eiffel Tower—engineered the internal structure. The pedestal(基座) was designed by architect Richard Morris Hunt.

自由女神像(Statue of Liberty),又称“自由照耀世界”(Liberty Enlightening the World),是法国在1876年赠送给美国的独立100周年礼物。

Times Square(时报广场)

By Freelance Chinese Translator Li – English to Chinese translation or Chinese to English translation services - based in Harbin,China.

Times Square is a major intersection in New York City in the borough of Manhattan and was named after the Times Building (now “One Time Square”) which was the former offices of The New York Times. It is located at Broadway and Seventh Avenue. Like city squares in many other famous cities around the world, Times Square has become a symbol and primary landmark in its home city. Its animated, digital advertisements help create an incredibly exciting vibe(共鸣) contributing to Times Square popularity to both tourists, locals and the Manhattan business community (it is the only neighborhood that actually requires building owners to display illuminated signs!!). Times Square is also home or adjacent to many of the Broadway theatres that feature some of the most popular award winning productions ever produced.
